In the early days of pandemic; as a supervisor of client care, I was responsible for advising support staff of PPE recommendations including eye protection. In one particular case a support worker with a full case load was contacted by public health to notify her of an exposure. When following up with the worker for contact tracing it was determined that the worker did not don all appropriate PPE which resulted in the spread of the virus to some of our elderly clients. The worker needed to isolate and this resulted in clients missing needed care. Ultimately, these elderly clients passed away due to complications related to the virus which could have been avoided if proper infection control practices were followed.
