During my time in the wound care clinic we used an autoclave to sterilize instruments used during care. We found that honey based dressings left residue on the scissors- if they were not disinfected and scrubbed before being processed. We had to complete a retraining session and review the cleaning processes. Cycling through patients and turning over clinic rooms and instruments quickly was having a negative impact on our infection control practices. We decided to have one person each day who was given time to disinfect and process the equipment properly.
