Sharing this example is really important to infection control practices. I remember shortly after I graduated that the hospital had an outbreak of C diff. The hospital had a really hard time sourcing the transmission mechanism. After watching a floor in outbreak they determined it was from the hand sanitizer units outside the rooms. They were not being cleaned often. And some staff were quickly entering the room without gloves to pick up and drop off things. They would then come out and use the hand sanitizer which became the source of transmission.
