I am in agreeance with the above stating that honesty is an important quality in a leader as well as understanding. My current leadership role model, holds bi weekly meetings with all the supervisors under her where it is open forum to discuss anything we feel needed. She is also very honest about any concerns we have or changes we would like but maybe can not have. Understanding is also an important feature of a leader, because sometimes even when their hands are tied to certain procedures or policies the simple fact that they understanding, (truly) goes along way. In my past experiences with managers above me in both Hospital, LTC and community nursing, I find the BEST leaders have also been ones that have done the job and worked their way up to their position. They understand the roles and demands of the jobs being conducted by their staff and have better understanding as to what actually happens verse what the policy and procedures say happen.
