Hi Jen,
Transitioning, even in our subconscious, does not come easy. It was normal for you to have gone into your new role with a communication style that had worked great for you prior. And yes, with LTC/RH setting, staff are expected to be feelers and sort of work around what is best for the patient/family. This is all a learning process. With that experience and from what we are learning now, I’m sure you’ll do great and adjust as such. I’m equally a doer and a thinker, the ultimate goal is to get the facts and make progress. However, it is important to pay attention to the environment (be it a group or setting) you find yourself in and take time to observe and work with/around the type of communication style in that area. One style I’m sure won’t work everywhere so it’s good to be open to change.
