Pooling Covid vaccine does not meet best practice and I was told by an employer to never do this. It was accepted to waste a vial with not enough vaccine for a dose, than to pool together. I understand at the beginning that there may have some “desperate measures in desperate times” but we have far surpassed the beginning stages of the pandemic. I always stuck to my grounds when it came to this aspect and was never hesitant to speak with colleagues I witnessed doing this. I worry about contaminating another vial and what the repercussion’s be? I also think this increases the risk for medication errors, especially when giving multiple vaccines at a time. In mass clinics for example, we could give Moderna, Pfizer and Pediatric Pfizer in a shift, mixing vials could pose a big issue if done incorrectly.
