Welcome to the end of week 7. Here you will post your 2-completed learning activities and respond to 1-other learners’ post. Remember your response to your peers should be reflective. Avoid brief acknowledgements and agreements.

Learning Activity 1 – Research Report

Write an outline of a research report (maximum 2 to 3 pages).
      • Identify how the findings of your literature search compare or contrast across the different articles.
      • Describe what lessons were learned from the research articles
      • Provide recommendations for nursing practice, education and/or research
      • Describe the limitations to your study (e.g., literature search, research focus etc)

      Hello everyone,

I asked the nurse I was shadowing on placement how the hospital gathers data and she said she didn’t know. This has been my experience in general on placement as a nursing student. It seems to me that not many nurses want to teach or share their knowledge with me or my fellow students. My experience is that some nurses don’t have the capacity right now to be researching new ideas or evidence-based practice techniques.

I tried finding this information independently and I read on the institution’s website that they conduct their own research in partnership with a university. The hospital seems to own their own labs and research is conducted in partnership at this facility. I would assume that this facility gathers a lot of data from their research and that this information is used in an established way to improve their policies and procedures.

If I had access to a different mentor at this facility that was interested in nursing research, I would ask them how the facility gathers research. An enthusiastic mentor would make all the difference for me in helping me feel confident in what I am learning.

      Kindly,
      Rachel

        Hello Rachel,
Greetings. Reading your research report makes me appreciate the SQUIRE 2.0 for the clarity it offers as a system presenting research findings in healthcare. Most fascinating is that it is easy to understand, and utilize. Without a doubt, this is very helpful for both researchers and clinicians alike.
In healthcare today, especially at the bedside, clinical decision-making has become even more complex due to the multiple factors at play in patient care which must be considered before arriving at any conclusion. This makes it of great necessity that research work be presented in an organized format that would be easy for front-line workers to access for the purpose of making quality healthcare decisions in record time.
