Discussion Question: This reading discusses low compliance with IPAC practices by healthcare providers. Have you always followed IPAC practices in your workplace? What would you recommend at your current or a former workplace to ensure or increase compliance with IPAC practices?
In practice, I try to consistently follow IPAC practices, but I can admit that it is not always perfect. Factors such as heavy workload and time pressure can sometimes affect full compliance. However, I am mindful of the importance of IPAC practices, especially hand hygiene and use of PPE, because they are essential for protecting both patients and healthcare workers.
To improve compliance in the workplace, I would recommend ongoing education and regular reminders to keep IPAC practices fresh in staff’s minds. Secondly, I would recommend having easy access to PPE and hand hygiene stations to encourage proper use. Regular audits and feedback can also be effective in identifying gaps and improving accountability.
At my workplace I have always tried to be in compliance with IPAC practices: i’m aware at times with the fast pace environment i’m in sometimes corners are cut. For example ,conducting hand hygiene within a timely manner, always wearing the appropriate PPEs in the given situation at hand. I would recommend frequently auditing , pop quizzes for staff for competence and also a more detailed /hands on education session regarding IPAC compliance.
